JMS Students Receive Special Thanks From Troops in Afghanistan
For the past few years, Jefferson Middle School has followed Lt. Colonel Brady Sexton--a college friend of JMS science teacher, Ms. Debra Mercier. While serving in Afghanistan, classes sent his troops Halloween candy, holiday cards, and treats. The year, the students were surprised with a wonderful gift from Lt.Colonel Brady Sexton.
Mellon Students Send Holiday Cheer to Military Serving Overseas for the Holidays
On November 11th, Mellon Student Council paired with Military Connections for their 8th annual stocking blitz. The families of Mellon donated thousands of items to stuff stockings for our military overseas who will not be home for the holidays.
JMS Food Drive Looks to Stock SHIM Pantry After the Holidays
This week, Jefferson Middle School held a food drive to benefit SHIM called "The Hunger Games to End Hunger" with the goal to help SHIM stock their shelves after the holidays.
Howe 5th Grade Chorus Performs at the Byham Theater
The Howe 5th Grade Chorus performed this month on stage at the Byham Theater prior to the CLO performance of "A Musical Christmas Carol." The students sang and danced to a variety of songs and then joined their parents to watch the musical. It was a special night for all!
High School Student Wins AIU Holiday Card Contest
Mt. Lebanon High School Junior Sarah Rolfsen's artwork was selected as the winning entry in the Allegheny County Intermediate Unit Holiday Card Art Contest. Sarah's sketch captures the wonder of the holiday season from the eyes of a young child. The artwork will be featured on the holiday cards send by AIU Executive Director Dr. Linda Hippert and the Board of Directors.
Visions of Gingerbread Houses Danced in Their Heads
For over 30 years, the Markham Elementary School tradition of making gingerbread houses has always been a special day on the school calendar. Younger students are paired with older students for the project. Each gingerbread house is unique and special.
Municipal Deer Management Archery Program Dec. 26-Jan.24
We have been notified by the Mt. Lebanon Municipality that they will conduct a deer management archery program that will run December 26, 2014 to January 24, 2015 in Bird Park, Robb Hollow Park, McNeilly Park and at the municipal golf course. High School Preschool Registration Open for Enrollment
Mt. Lebanon High School will once again offer a preschool program for three and four year olds. Enrollment is limited to ten children and the deadline for applications is February 20, 2015.

The Mt. Lebanon School Board Elects New Board Leadership
The Mt. Lebanon School Board held a reorganization meeting on December 1, 2014 and elected new board leadership. In a unanimous vote, the School Board elected Lawrence M. Lebowitz president and Mary D. Birks vice president for a term of one year.
Student Outcomes Report Shows High Performance of Schools Continues
The Student Outcomes Report was presented by Dr. Ron Davis and Dr. Marybeth Irvin at the School Board meeting last night. The report details the overall academic progress being made in our schools.
Auditorium to Reopen with Ribbon Cutting and Chorus Concert on Nov. 18
The High School Auditorium will officially reopen on Tuesday, November 18 at 7:30 p.m. with a ribbon cutting ceremony.

Mt. Lebanon High School is proud to announce the 2014 Great Alumni. Congratulations to this year's recipients: Dean A. Calland '72, Betty Jo Hirschfield Louik '72, Clinton A. Hodder '58, Ruby Lee Kang Class of '83, John M. Macdonald '54, Donald Mcilvane '42, and James M. Offutt '61. The Great Alumni were honored at a luncheon at the high school on Friday and at the football game that evening.
High School Model UN Team Sweep Pitt's European Union Competition
On Tuesday, Dec.2, the high school Model UN team won 1st place at the Model European Union competition sponsored by the Center for European Studies at Pitt.

Model UN Team Keeps the Streak Alive at Penn State
The Model UN team is off and running toward another stellar season. The team won 1st Place at the Penn State Model UN tournament Oct. 16-19th. It was the third consecutive year Mt. Lebanon won the Penn State MUN tournament and is the first tournament for Lebo of the 2014-15 school year.

Four Mt. Lebanon Students Selected National Merit Semifinalists
The officials of the National Merit Scholarship Corporation announced the names of approximately 16,000 Semifinalists in the 60th annual National Merit Scholarship Program and four Mt. Lebanon High School students were among list of semifinalists. The students were honored at the Sept. 15 School Board meeting.
Students Take the No Texting and Driving Pledge
Mt. Lebanon students had a chance to participate in Allstate Insurance Company’s Reality RidesSM driving simulator. The driving simulations show the potential consequences distracted drivers could face on the road.

Mrs. Cece Kapron Honored as Finalist for PA Teacher of the Year
Congratulations to Mt. Lebanon High School dance teacher, Mrs. Cece Kapron, who was selected as one of thirteen regional finalists for the Pennsylvania Teacher of the Year Award for 2015. Mrs. Kapron was honored at an awards ceremony this week in Harrisburg.

Congratulations to Coach Dori Oldaker for bringing home the gold medal as head coach of Team USA's 3x3 women’s basketball team that competed this week at the 2014 Youth Olympic Games in Nanjing, China.
